2009-10 Prospective Graduate Students Post #1

For: Prospective grad students in political theory/philosophy to ask questions about different programs, different specializations, and anything else that might come to mind.

Please note: As has been observed in previous iterations of this topic, it is impossible for this conversation NOT to turn into a comparative discussion of different programs and, thus, the chance that there will be uncivil/unhelpful replies is high. In order to keep the discussion on point, I will moderate with a heavy hand. Personal attacks and unsubstantiated, throwaway criticism of a program or approach will be deleted.

General Discussion from 6/09--??

From the last General Discussion post: "This is the thread for civil discussion of things that aren't directly job-market-related."

Obviously the issue of Political Theory's editorship is a hot topic at the moment. Please endeavor to keep the discussion centered--as much as possible--around the process, not the individuals involved, especially since we do not yet have a lot of concrete information about what has happened. While I recognize that conditional discussions along the lines of "If X, then I think Y" are inevitable, I will edit or delete posts that become too personal.

6/29 update: This thread is open for business. If the discussion gets ridiculous, I'll close it again.

Political Theory Junior Job Thread 2008-2009--Part 6

Job market rumors and news--Part 6.

Please don't name particular junior candidates for particular jobs until an offer has been made--no lists of who's been longlisted or shortlisted or interviewed. Please keep this thread for job market information and discussion.

If anyone is interested in taking over management of the blog, please contact me at poltheorist@gmail.com. You should be a faculty member who won't be applying for jobs in the fall.

New Admin Here

This is just a heads-up to let everyone know that the RM has changed hands.

I'm not going to change much in terms of the way the site is run (I will maintain the no names policy for junior searches), but I would like to encourage people who might, for any reason, be uncomfortable posting to email me at poltheorist@gmail.com with any information they'd like to share. If the information is credible, I'll post it myself (sort of like the IR site did/used to do).

I'll probably wait until after July 4th to post fresh threads for the '09-'10 job season unless there is an unexpected flurry of activity over the next few weeks.

I'd also like to thank my predecessor for all the work s/he did to maintain the site!
